Principal's Updates

March 24th 2013

Dear Parents

I am very sorry to inform you that Mrs Lynne, who was one of our Year 3 Teachers until she left the School in May 2012, has sadly passed away after a very courageous fight against a serious form of cancer.

I received an email from Paul, her husband, on Friday informing me that she had died peacefully in her sleep with her family at her side.  As Paul stated in his email: Lynne had put up an amazing fight, defying all the doctors' predictions. He then went on to say that I know Lynne would want me to pass on her thanks to you for all your support, not only during this last year but also throughout her time at Star. She loved teaching at Star and I know that she will take with her fantastic memories of her time with you.

Lynne was one of the original Team of Teachers who helped to open the School in 2008.  Over her three years with us she made a huge contribution to making Star International School, Umm Sheif, so successful.  We owe her a tremendous debt for her dedication and commitment.

Lynne was a very special Member of our School Community.  She will be sadly missed by all those Children, Parents and Colleagues whose lives she touched.

The pain of loss will, of course, be most acutely borne by Lynne's husband, Paul, their children Matt and Claire, other Members of their Family and their circle of Friends.  On behalf of the STAR Family I extend my condolences to all at this time of bereavement.

However, amidst this sadness we should not forget to celebrate and give thanks for Lynne and all she stood for during her lifetime.

Michael

During her visit last Christmas, Mrs Lynne informed us of her desire to set up a fund raising link to support Pancreatic Cancer Research.

Parents, Staff and Friends Association (PSFA)

The PSFA is a voluntary association that supports the school, under guidelines set by the Principal and School Leadership. Its aim is to provide the school community with additional resources, expertise and time. There are various committees within the PSFA which include, 'Social Events', 'Volunteers' and 'Marketing', as well as individual 'Class Representatives'.

Every Star International School parent is welcome to join and give their time to any of the committees currently running. Each committee elects a Chair and Secretary and, in some circumstances, a Treasurer. Meetings tend to be held within the school and can be as frequent as once a week or as little as once every couple of months, depending on the agenda. Whilst the meetings are very relaxed, they are extremely productive and are also a great way to meet other parents and make new friends.

We are very proud of the work done e.g. the organisation of a School Open Day, regular school discos (which the children thoroughly enjoy!) and fund raising. We have also supported school events in which we celebrate special occasions such as Iftar, Diwali, Christmas, National Day and International Day.
