Principal's Updates

March 24th 2013

Dear Parents

I am very sorry to inform you that Mrs Lynne, who was one of our Year 3 Teachers until she left the School in May 2012, has sadly passed away after a very courageous fight against a serious form of cancer.

I received an email from Paul, her husband, on Friday informing me that she had died peacefully in her sleep with her family at her side.  As Paul stated in his email: Lynne had put up an amazing fight, defying all the doctors' predictions. He then went on to say that I know Lynne would want me to pass on her thanks to you for all your support, not only during this last year but also throughout her time at Star. She loved teaching at Star and I know that she will take with her fantastic memories of her time with you.

Lynne was one of the original Team of Teachers who helped to open the School in 2008.  Over her three years with us she made a huge contribution to making Star International School, Umm Sheif, so successful.  We owe her a tremendous debt for her dedication and commitment.

Lynne was a very special Member of our School Community.  She will be sadly missed by all those Children, Parents and Colleagues whose lives she touched.

The pain of loss will, of course, be most acutely borne by Lynne's husband, Paul, their children Matt and Claire, other Members of their Family and their circle of Friends.  On behalf of the STAR Family I extend my condolences to all at this time of bereavement.

However, amidst this sadness we should not forget to celebrate and give thanks for Lynne and all she stood for during her lifetime.

During her visit last Christmas, Mrs Lynne informed us of her desire to set up a fund raising link to support Pancreatic Cancer Research.

Clinic

The safety and well-being of all the children at Star International School is of prime importance to us. The school has a fully equipped First Aid Room with all the necessary equipment and basic first aid medications. We have 2 full-time qualified nurses who are available to administer any necessary first aid treatment as well as offer advice and health education when needed. All first aid cases receive immediate attention and in the event of an emergency an ambulance will be called.

Communication between Home and School is of vital importance in nurturing the health of the Children. For the students whose parents have given consent, a doctor visits the school twice weekly to carry out routine medical examinations.

We also continue to invite different specialists to contribute to the wellbeing of our children. We believe that early screenings help prevent future health problems.
